I've been a movie buff for as long as I can remember, and I've seen my fair share of duds. Netflix, with its vast library and original content, has become a go-to for many, but it's not all gold. Here are five movies that I think you should avoid, and trust me, you'll be glad you did. First up, let's talk about 6 Underground. I'll be honest, I can't imagine recommending a Michael Bay movie, and 6 Underground is no exception. It's a vapid waste of talent, with a non-evil billionaire protagonist and no clear message. The story is thin, the explosions are over-the-top, and the actors, who are mostly fine, are wasted in this project. Personally, I think it's a prime example of how not to make a movie. Next, we have Bright. David Ayer and Max Landis' attempt to tackle policing and race falls flat. The worldbuilding is lazy, and the messages are muddled. Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are talented actors, but they're let down by a weak script. I'd recommend watching Lindsay Ellis' YouTube essay on the subject instead. Red Notice is another one that falls flat. Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are charming, but the movie is empty and vapid. Gal Gadot is just not strong enough to play a conniving thief, and the movie has no message or intent. It's a glossy, lifeless action movie that leaves you feeling empty. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is a movie that tries to lionize Ted Bundy, but fails miserably. Zac Efron's performance is praised, but casting him as Bundy makes the killer seem cooler than he should. The movie flatters the killer and twists the message about his sociopathy. Finally, we have Uglies. This movie wants to say something beautiful about society, but it's deeply ugly and a bad treatise on transformation. The story and performances are rough, and the message is twisted by its "happy ending." I'd recommend avoiding this one and watching a "Hunger Games" movie instead. In my opinion, these movies are not worth your time or attention. They're a waste of talent and resources, and they leave you feeling disappointed. So, if you're looking for a good movie night, I'd suggest avoiding these five and choosing something that's actually worth your time.
